Roommates / apartments near Agnes Scott?

Ladies, ASC alumna here with housing woes. My would-be moving plans fell through and I need another place to live ASAP. Are any of y'all still looking for housing and/or flatmates near Decatur, starting anytime from now through early October? I work in Decatur, so I'd love to share with another current Scottie or grad. Failing that, what are your recommendations for sources of non-skeevy off-campus housing/housemates near campus?

Free Amazon Prime for students

Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Internet Access for Visitors?

Current students or recent grads-- what are the options for internet access for a visitor to campus? Are there public computers with a generic login? Public wireless?

Minor ASC mention in AJC article on Thursday - Joyful Noise director found not guilty

Agnes got name-dropped yesterday in this Atlanta Journal-Constitution article about Joyful Noise director Nathan Grigsby being "found not guilty of five counts of contributing to the deprivation of a minor." Yay? (Yay for him, anyway; ASC being mentioned in association with a criminal case, not so yay.)

The article currently reads "[Grigsby] currently directs the choir at Agnes Scott College," which gives the distinct impression that Agnes Scott has only one A)choir B)choir director. I'm hunting down a contact e-mail to correct that error.

Help with my finacial aids

Hi all Scotties,

I'm so happy to be admitted by Agnes Scott this month but was dissappointed to find that I still need about 15k financial aids.
I had an interview with an admission officer and talked with scottie online (chatroom). everything in Agnes Scott fits me pretty well and I really wanna go to Agnes Scott!
I have emailed the admission officer. She told there is a appeal committee in mid-april, in which my individual appeal will be considered.
What do you guys think I should do now? I don't want to just wait for the decision.
I find someone said she was required to write essays about why she want to go to agnes scott and why she need more money.
Do you think I should also write essays like that?
BTW, I'm an international student :)
Thank you SO MUCH!

For the Alumnae: we just got an email chock-full of good news from President Kiss (including enrollment going up, being named Top Producer of Fulbright Scholars, and achievements by students, faculty, and alumnae):

Dear Agnes Scott Students, Faculty and Staff,Collapse )

so i just saw president kiss' facebook status message:

"To the Scotties on FB – pls know we are aware that you are concerned about Kim Nolley and Kelly Grant. The college did not accept their resignations. A meeting is scheduled to discuss the issues, with a union rep present. We value and respect all our ...employees. Pls give us some time to try to work this out with the people directly involved in a way that addresses concerns and resolves issues fairly and appropriately."

does anyone in this community want to clue in an out-of-touch alum on what's going on??? i'm so confused/intrigued/worried!

I scanned in the class photos from my first and senior years recently: see here. The first year photo was taken in the old amphitheatre, which was filled in so the chapel could be built. The original plans for the chapel included a new outdoor amphitheatre with one of the walls of the chapel forming a center backdrop for the grassy stage, but that didn't happen.

Does ASC still do class photos? Where does everyone gather, if they do?

The day the email died

For those affected by the death of Agnes Scott's email server, here's a pro tip for you to prevent future panicking. Forward it to a Gmail account. Any other account that will check mail using POP3 works as well, but to the best of my knowledge your basic Yahoo and Hotmail do not. Therefore, this outline will assume that you are using Gmail.

1. Sign up for a Gmail account if you don't already have one. You can do that here.

2. After the account has been created, sign in.

3. Go to Settings in the upper right corner. Then click Accounts and Settings. Under Check Mail using POP3, click "Add POP3 email account".

4. Enter your ASC email address when the popup window appears. Enter your username (your ASC username) and password (your ASC email password). The POP server and port can be left alone. Now for the fun stuff.

* For the love of all that is holy, leave a copy of the message in your ASC box. Gmail does go down on occasion, you know. The rest are fine left alone if you don't know what they mean; however, if you're an experienced Gmail user, you may wish to tweak these.

5. Click Add Account. Gmail will try to fetch mail from your ASC account. If you were doing this before today, it would take a very long time, especially if you had a lot of mail in your inbox.

Tada! You're finished. You can also send email from Gmail as if it were from your ASC account and even import contacts. It's really easy, and the setting can be accessed from the same Accounts and Settings bar that you used to forward your ASC mail. Don't forget to come back next week. We'll talk about... malware.
